Packed Mail Notification for debian unstable, a tray icon that informs you if you have new mail.

It has support for multiple mailboxes, mbox, pop3, imap, maildir, sylpheed, mh and gmail. Authenticates over sasl, ssl/tls and apop.

Works well with every desktop manager that comforms with the Freedesktop System Tray Specification. This means Gnome, KDE, XFCE, etc.
